I always struggle when it comes to people who are releasing email related products.

The reason for the struggle is that I already know most people don’t have any actual email setup in place.

Everyone tells themselves “I’ll get to that later once I start having success”. There is one huge problem with that mind-set though… It really does take a list to become successful.

Some of you may know, I worked on amazon affiliate review sites and preached that stuff for years. I also provided the formula to some of my students at that time.

I still doing these stuff because the work is a bit addictive plus it’s a great way to earn a semi-passive income. And some of my students are still working on it.

But what you do not know is that every single day of the week for the past couple of years, I get messages like this:

“Leo, I have a flow of traffic coming through, I’m getting real human clicks to my Amazon review sites directly from google/bing search results, but I’m not making any real money yet. I see other people posting their earnings, I have as much traffic as them, but I’m not making money. What am I doing wrong?”

Questions like that always put me in a really tough spot because I want to tell them what to do, but it is a crime punishable by years in prison (in the u.s.) to tell anyone that they will absolutely make money if they do xyz thing… So, as much as I want to reply to those messages, I don’t do it. I’m not going to risk getting into trouble.

Over the past few days all of this has been really bothering me – I know the answer they need, but I’m not allowed to give it.

And then it occurred to me… Disclaimers are your/my friend!

So… Before we go further into this post:

I am just a man. I am not clairvoyant, I cannot see your future therefore I cannot in any way guarantee you that what I tell you next will ever put a single penny in your pocket.

Are we clear? I am not telling you that you will or will not make money. I am only telling you what I happen to have been doing for the past 13 plus years and have been successful with, and what I have seen 100% of all successful marketers do in order to become successful… That is it.

You may or may not have similar results – I have no idea. Again, I can’t even know my own future so I certainly don’t know yours.

Alright, now that we have that established, lets move forward.

First, lets look at the situation… You are doing amazon product review stuff and you have traffic flowing. Traffic = people hitting your offer via search engine results (simple).

Yet – You make no money, while you see someone else making money with even less traffic.

Obviously, people aren’t responding to the offer you are putting in front of them (duh!).

Here’s the thing though… you are putting that one offer in front of them one single time and ‘hope’ to generate a sale from it.

What I do, and what every single other successful marketer I have ever met in my life does is this…

We capture the lead. We entice that visitor to give us his/her name/email, and then we send them on to that offer we are promoting. (ring any bells?… How do you think you ended up on my list and reading this post?)

Ok, so lets say that me and you are in the exact same niche… We are both getting pretty much the exact same traffic/visitors/people to our offers.

You are showing them the offer and they are basically gone forever, yet I am getting their email so that if they don’t like that offer, I can send them an email about a different offer that is still related to that niche that they already showed/told me they were interested in.

Are you getting it? Is it starting to get clear in your mind?

You interact once, I interact countless times spanning years… and years!

So, as we both go along in this niche, over time my list gets bigger and bigger thus giving me more and more opportunities to make more and more money… but not you. You hit them once and lost them forever.

Now – which of us do you think is going to end up making more money… me, or you?

I’ll end the suspense for you… I am the one who is going to make money, and you are going to be the one who keeps buying new things (from me and people like me) searching for a way to make money.

The real answer has been right in front of you the whole time… Build a list.

I hope you actually internalize this message and then externalize what I just taught you.

One final point… Remember I mentioned earlier that I receive messages every single day like this and have been receiving them for years? Well, the flip side to that is that in my 13 plus years of doing this, I have never, ever, not a single time, ever received a message from someone who had traffic and a list who told me they weren’t making any money 🙂

P.S. Today, this subject reminded me of what Bill Gates once said in an interview about his secret to success.

He mentioned 3 things (3rd will change your life..) on Larry King’ LIVE show, in the 1990s, when he became the richest man in the world.

1) Timing- “I was lucky – I was at the right place at the right time…” He saw a great need for personal computers, timing was one of the factors behind his fortune of BILLIONS of dollars.

2) Having depth of vision – A lot of people were at the right place at the right time, but not all of them had a vision like he did. Friend, you know something, thousands of people who have registered in my list will be reading this post… all of them are at the right place at the right time… but a lot of them still don’t have a vision and/or not take massive & immediate action.
