In life we are asked to make decisions every single day. Thousands of them.

 

Some of them tiny, like what you’ll eat for breakfast, and some of them more significant, like choosing to invest and put your trust in a business.

 

The small decisions are automatic – we process many of them on a subconscious level, they don’t require much brain-power, and they certainly don’t worry us because they’re things we’ve done a thousand times before.

 

The bigger decisions are a different beast however, and when we’re asked to do something new, human nature has hard-wired us to retreat, or to simply freeze.

 

It’s a simple survival mechanism, and is one of the main reasons human have survived for so long, where other species have become extinct.

 

Having been involved in LEARNING & teaching everyday people to build online businesses for a decade now, I’ve seen this ‘retreat of freeze’ phenomena present itself over and over again.

 

This is when people literally FREEZE when asked to do something that pushes them even just a tiny bit outside their everyday pattern.

 

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this over the past few days…

 

…and have thought of a few reasons why this happens.

 

The first reason is CONFUSION and the UNKNOWN.

 

If we don’t understand something, we retreat, as a survival mechanism.

 

Imagine the hunter-gatherer 500,000 years ago… eating the wrong mushroom could have spelt the end for him and his family.

 

We’ve been hard-wired to avoid confusion and to avoid the unknown, so when there is an element of doubt around the way something works and when we’re not 100% sure about something, we either do nothing, or just keep doing what we’ve always done.

 

But what if you’re the hunter-gatherer, and you stumble upon a meadow filled of mushrooms… mushrooms you’ve never seen before… mushrooms that could provide years worth of food for your family?

 

What hunter-gatherers used to do was to sample a tiny piece of one of the mushrooms, wait a couple of days, see if they got sick, and if not, then try some more. If nothing happened, they’d eventually start eating the mushrooms as part of their everyday diet, and if they found a meadow full of them, they’d be set for life.

 

But in the business world, and especially in 2019 with so many things thrown at us every day, most people don’t even dip their toe in the water… they just say ‘No’ and move on.

 

This protects you from the scams and the things that can hurt your well-being, but it also eliminates the things that really can have an huge positive impact on your life.

 

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

 

Has confusion and the unknown stopped you in your tracks in the past?

 

How many REAL and GOOD opportunities has that made you miss? This is impossible to answer, because you only know if something is real and good once you’ve taken the leap of faith. The hunter-gatherer only knows the mushroom won’t make him sick after he’s tried it once…

 

The second reason people freeze is when they don’t believe in something.

 

And worse than that, when they don’t believe in themselves.

 

At first glance, this might sound like a good survival strategy, but the problem arises when the doubts are unfounded.

 

Unfortunately, in the online business world, there is so much hype and hoopla, and so much crap floating around, that most of us have been burned at some point in time, and belief that something new and good is out there is at an all time low.

 

It’s just hard to know what system to use and who to trust nowadays.

 

And when you start blaming yourself for not succeeding in the past, it exacerbates the situation.

 

The reality is that, for most online business models, there are DOZENS of points of failure, and your ability is only one of them.

 

Let’s take selling physical products as an example…

 

To begin with, before you can even start to think about selling, you need to navigate through a maze of red tape… things like legal business setup, reseller certificates, and more.

 

This is worse than a headache, it’s what I call a ball-ache!

 

But let’s say you charge forward, and get past the red tape, the next hurdle in your path is finding suppliers. This seemingly trivial task isn’t trivial, and it will be a roadblock for some people…

 

But let’s say you find some good suppliers who have some good products you can sell, you’ve still got to get through the logistics of selling. By this I mean making the product ready to sell, that means packaging, labeling, quality checking, shipping, and a raft of other ‘trivial’ (NOT!) tasks.

 

But you get through those, you ship your products to Amazon or list them on your store.

 

Then what?

 

You need to sell them.

 

But what if, over the past few weeks (or months) that it’s taken you to get to this point, the market changes. The price that other people on Amazon are selling the same (or similar) products for drops by a few dollars?

 

Well, that could KILL your profit.

 

Deflated yet?

 

Let’s say you manage to sell your items at cost price, it’s now time to invest in more inventory, but you still haven’t got your initial money back from Amazon, because they’ll hold onto it for a few weeks before paying out…

 

UGHHHH… writing this makes me groan.. Because I’ve been down this path, and it destroys not only your soul, but your cash flow as well.

 

But were ANY of these problems of YOUR making?

 

Or were they just the nature of the beast?

 

Look, I’m NOT trying to knock selling on Amazon, I LOVE that, and am fortunate that it makes me a lot of money every year and I continue to learn & teach this model to this day… but I’m VERY aware of the intricacies of getting started and running and scaling the business, and it is not for the faint hearted.

 

The point I’m trying to make here is that when people don’t succeed with something, the blame is either:

 

Directed at the model (“this doesn’t work! It was a scam!”) or…

 

Directed at you, and your own ability (“maybe I’m just not cut out for this…”)

 

But in most cases, neither is a fair assessment.

 

You can’t blame the model… the model is just what it is. It’s like a machine. You play by its rules, and you try to come out on top.

 

And as for your ability, give yourself a break!!

 

We’ve all failed in the past… I’ve failed DOZENS of times and it makes you stronger, – but only if your get back up.

 

Don’t blame yourself, because there are dozens of potential pitfalls that can strike you down.

 

At the core of it all, business fundamentals are simple.

 

That’s not to say business is simple, clearly that’s not the case as my example above shows, but some businesses follow more of a recipe than others, some are more predictable than others.

 

And when you have a recipe, and the required tools, your personal ability should NOT be a factor.

 

What matters is the process.

 

Anyone can bake a delicious cake if they’re given the ingredients in the exact quantity, and shown how to combine those ingredients at the perfect time, in the perfect way, using the right set of tools.

 

I know for a fact that some people reading this have not invested in Parallel Profits program because they’ve lost hope in their own ability, or in online training programs in general… and it makes me sad. Not for me… but for them, and for never knowing what could have been.

 

What I want you to know is that with what I’ve been discussing over the past week, it is ALL about the Process, and has zero reliance on individual talent.

And furthermore, we’re in a time where money is available unlike ever before. If you NEED to get your hands on money, you can normally find a way to do it.

 

If your car breaks down and you need to pay $2500 to fix it, you find a way.

 

If you need urgent dental surgery to save your tooth, you find a way to pay for it.

 

And you do these things because you KNOW the upside is worth the price tag.

 

When presented with an opportunity like joining Parallel Profits program, the real question becomes are you willing to do what it takes to make the investment?

But your pre-programmed ‘survival mind’ isn’t done with you just yet!

 

Because if you’re not confused about what something is, and you’ve got the money, then time is the next survival mechanism that kicks into play.

 

And for good reason, time really is the king.

 

Unlike money which we can replenish, time is always ticking down. Each day that passes is gone FOREVER, and you can’t get it back.

 

If you’re anything like me, then I’m sure you value your time and don’t want to risk wasting it.

 

But here’s the thing… what I know to be true about you, and everyone else on planet earth, is that you can make time for things that are important enough. You can get up 15 minutes earlier in the morning if you have to. You can go to be 15 minutes later at night if the payoff is worth it.

 

But do you have ENOUGH time to set up and run a new business?

 

The answer to that depends on the business of course.

And the amygdala appears in a couple of ways. Sometimes through conscious fear… you’re afraid, you know it – and you don’t proceed.

 

But other times it’s subconscious… you don’t want to proceed, you don’t know why… and it keeps you anchored where you are.

 

Fear to try something new means your life is on a loop, in constant playback, never deviating from the path.

 

2018 looked a bit like 2017.

 

2017 like 2016.

 

A few things change from year to year… you might change your job, sell your house, or move to live in a new place… but in the grand scheme of things, your life remains similar.

 

The thing is, and very few people know this, or are able to embrace it, radical growth only happens when you break the mold, and doing that is freaking terrifying for most of us.

 

Admittedly, the most of our fears are unfounded… because when you ask yourself:

 

“what’s the worst that could happen?”

 

… you see that your life won’t end. The saber-tooth tiger won’t get you. You won’t be humiliated. Your won’t ‘lose rank’ among your peers, or the respect of your loved ones.
